Scapegoating Indians

There will be plenty of work for the Wise Use spear carriers soon enough, and not over conservation either, but rather over our favorite activity—energy consumption. Fair Coalition, the anti-Indian front group for the energy industry, is already engaging in blatant bigotry and fearmongering over the rights-of-way conflict with tribes in the Southwest. Nothing new here, except unlike the battles on the Klamath River over endangered salmon, or over reservation real estate in Puget Sound, this battle has big potential for big energy to mobilize significant resentment and violence like we’ve never seen before.
