The Business of Bombs

The most heavily-bombed nation on earth achieved this distinction while not at war. Laos, secretly and illegally carpet-bombed by the United States from 1964 to 1973, today has 78 million unexploded cluster bombs scattered across its landscape, maiming and murdering children and farmers every day.

Last Friday, representatives from 111 countries met in Dublin to adopt an anti-cluster bomb treaty. The United States, the world’s largest manufacturer (and user) of cluster bombs, did not attend.
