Hard to Find

It probably goes without saying that the pursuit of happiness takes many and varied forms. Having so far survived the holiday season relatively in tact, it occurs to me that there are those who find joy in authenticity, while there are perhaps many more who long for imbecility. Manic behavior in the latter — often expressed through consumerism, alcoholism, and other destructive choices — is thus the antithesis of calm contemplation in more ways than one. Maybe that’s why thoughtful people are so hard to find.
